Holi Festival, also known as the 'festival of colors' or the 'festival of love' is currently underway, and you know what that means — colored powder is flying everywhere, all over the world. Having kicked off with a bonfire on the eve of March 12 and lasting until the evening of March 13, the day-long festival is said to signify the victory of good over evil, and is a chance for goers to play, laugh, and repair broken relationships. It's also intended as a colorful way to welcome spring; think of it as a little spring cleaning for your soul.
While the Hindu festival originates in India, its popularity has led to similar celebrations across multiple continents including Europe, Asia and North America. Locals, expats, and travelers all over the world often take part, regardless of whether or not their religion is Hindu. Because in this free-for-all festival, everyone is fair game, coating each other in colored powder whilst celebrating to music and enjoying customary drinks like bhang (a marijuana-based drink with milk, ghee, mangoes, and Indian spices).
By this evening, festival goers will sober and dress up to spend time with friends and family, and Holi will come to a close. Judging by these 14 Instagrams, though, we're dubbing this year's Holi a huge success.
